Overview
Mamma M.I.A. is a cooperative, strategy-based board game created by a team of six communication designers. The story follows Nonna, a retired mob boss who opens a restaurant with her former mafia crew. Players navigate dual roles as mafia members and restaurant staff, working together to launder money, keep Nonna happy, and maintain the restaurant’s reputation.
Beyond the gameplay, Mamma M.I.A. explores how shared experiences can bring people closer in our increasingly disconnected world. Designed as a low-pressure reason to gather, collaborate, and engage face-to-face, our game creates a space for conversation and connection.
As the Illustration and Visual Identity Designer, I illustrated the cards as players’ primary window into the game’s characters, using visual storytelling to give each personality a distinct identity and make the fictional world feel tangible. My aim was to see that every card wasn't just a gameplay mechanic, but an invitation to step into someone else’s shoes, interact with others, and build shared memories around the table.
